Rick Amato has been a practicing attorney in the collar counties of Chicago for more than two decades, specializing in criminal law, as well as municipal and government law. Rick’s reputation as a highly respected lawyer has been earned through values such as integrity, stewardship and fairness. Rick began his legal career as an assistant state’s attorney for DeKalb County. He then worked in the private practice of law as a criminal defense attorney throughout north central and northeastern Illinois.

Rick served his community as the DeKalb County State’s Attorney from 2016 until 2024, emphasizing justice, accountability and public safety. As the elected state’s attorney, Rick was regarded as a leader, problem solver, advocate and innovator, always working for the betterment of the community and its people. Rick was raised in Addison, Illinois, graduated from Northern Illinois University, and earned his Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School (now the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.) Rick and his wife, Renee, a lifelong DeKalb County resident, live in Sycamore with the family.
